Urdu medium posts may be de-reserved

Efforts are being made to de-reserve Urdu medium teacher posts which have been lying vacant for the last 20 years in the government Urdu medium schools in the Agency areas to recruit those teacher posts on regular basis with the eligible and trained Urdu medium candidates in the Adilabad district of Telangana.

These posts were reserved for tribal candidates in the Agency areas and cannot be filled with candidates of other communities. But there were no eligible Urdu medium candidates from Tribals to recruit them in the posts reserved for them.

However, experts say that de-reservation of Urdu medium posts which were  reserved for tribals in the areas was not easy process and this needs amendment of tribal laws at state and central governments level.

There are 58 Urdu medium teacher posts which were laying vacant at 20 Urdu medium schools at various places in the Agency areas right now in the district. All these schools are being run by vidya volunteers of Urdu medium.

In some cases, parents have admitted their children in Telugu medium schools due to lack of regular teachers and poor studies at Urdu medium schools in the same location.

   

There was good demand for Urdu medium schools in the Agency areas as Muslim Minority population was in considerable numbers in the agency areas in  Utnoor, Indravelli, Ichoda, Kerameri, Asifabad, Jainoor and Narnoor mandals in the district.              

Urdu medium teacher posts have not been filled though posts were notified in many DSC notifications as there were no suitable eligible candidates from the Tribal communities as the posts were reserved for tribals in the Agency areas.

Two ministers of this district Jogu Ramanna and Allola Indrakaran Reddy were making efforts to de-reserve Urdu posts to fill them with Muslim minorities. There were many Muslim minority eligible candidates for the Urdu teacher posts in government schools but cannot be filed the posts with them in the Agency.

Muslim minority organizations many times represented to the governments, Ministers and officials concerned expressing their concern over Urdu medium schools running in agency area under ITDA, Utnoor in pathetic condition where nearly 2,000 students were studying. The scheduled area norms have become an obstacle in recruiting the Muslim Minority candidates. 

Along with Khanapur MLA Rekha Naik, a team led by district convenor Syed Karim of Telangana Minority Welfare Society, met the deputy Chief Minister Mahmood Ali and requested him to take steps to improve the facilities at Urdu medium schools in the agency areas in the Adilabad district and appoint minority Urdu teachers with conditional appointment on regular basis. 

Two years ago, an Urdu medium primary school was closed down due to lack of teachers at IB Chowrasta of Utnoor. Teacher MLC P. Sudhakar Reddy has also advocated de-reserve Urdu medium teacher posts to recruit the posts lying vacant for long years in the agency in the district.

Tribals remind Rahul of Grandmother

Congress vice- president Rahul Gandhi said ‘his recent visit to Adilabad brought back memories of his grandmother late Prime Minister Indira Gandhi’s association with tribals.

Talking with the tribal leaders of Adilabad who met him at his officer in Delhi, Rahul Gandhi reportedly said that his grandmother Indira Gandhi presented him a book, which was full of photographs of tribal people of the country, their culture, rituals and traditions.

He recalled how she used to explain him minute details of the tribals traditions when he was 15. The Gandhi scion said that he still has those books preserved.

Adilabad DCC working president and TPCC state secretary Naresh Jadhav attended Rahul Gandhi’s meeting with tribals leaders, which is the first step towards revive the party’s relations with the Tribals.

Adivasi Gussadis and Lambada women in their traditional dresses welcomed the Rahul Gandhi at Koratikal during his Kisan Sandesh Yatra in Adilabad.

Speaking to this newspaper, Naresh Jadhav said their leader Rahul Gandhi revealed how his childhood memories with his grandmother got refreshed on seeing Adivasi Gussadis and Lambada women dressed in their traditional attire     during the pada yatra in Adilabad.

It may be recalled here that late Prime Minister Indira Gandhi’s photo in traditional Lambada woman’s clothing is quite popular.

Rahul Gandhi’s meeting with the tribal leaders from across the country was aimed to grow tries with the tribals of various groups by addressing their problems and extending congress party’s support to the Tribals agitations against centre.

Rahul Gandhi also interacted with the Lambada Hakkula Porata Samiti (LHPS) senior leaders Bellaiah Naik and Mangilal from Telangana state. 

With this meeting it is clear that congress party will take the support of the caste organizations, various students and tribal organizations to strengthen its base.

No pushkaralu for Adivasis

Despite being attachment to the river Godavari since a long time, Adivasis do not practice Godavari pushkaralu and will not take holy dip in the river Godavari as they have no such tradition.

However, Adivasis give bath popularly known as ‘Ganga Snan’ to the wooden idols of their traditional gods like Bheemanna, Jalli Devara and Nagoba in the river Godavari twice in a year.

Adivasi leader Sidam Shambu said, “We do not observe Godavari pushkaralu. We have our own set of customers and traditions on various occasion”.

They Adivasis take their traditional gods in a procession to give them bath at identified local streams and also some places at river Godavari.

“It is must for the Adivasis to take dip in the water along with their gods to purify themselves (Shuddi)”, Sidam Shambu said, adding that they will give bath to their traditional gods in Pushyamas and Vaishakam’.

He said they too do Pindapradan called ‘Thoomu’ to their ancestors and forefathers while giving bath to their gods.

There is a tradition among the Adivasis that they equate their elders who died, to that of gods, by performing rituals in their names on the occasion of giving bath to their gods. This traditional is called ‘Karun’ merging the elders who died into their gods.

Adivasis give bath to their traditional gods at ‘Padmalpuri Kako’ at Rampur in Dandepali, considered to be a sacred place as they believe it was a birth place of Adivasi dance ‘Dandari’  to be performed by the Gussadis on the occasion of Diwali.

Another place was Kalamadugu in Jannaram mandal on the banks of river Godavari. The ‘Kattodas’, traditional priests of Adivasis, will perform rituals. Various clans like Atram, Nitham, Sidam, Mesram among the Gods will perform their traditional rituals to their specific gods.

Adivasis 'experience' the goodness of yoga

Yoga became an experience of a lifetime for the Adivasis women who had never before been exposed to exercise regime.

Around 80 tribals, including a few SC women, of all ages, have been practicing Surya Namskarams and body stretching exercises for joint, knee and back pain and now they are capable of training other tribals.

These tribal and SC women received certificates for their participation in free yoga and naturopathy camp at Utnoor conducted under the SC and ST component plan. 

Sources said that the certificates would go a long way in boosting the morale of the Anganwadi and Asha workers, most of whom have only studied till primary and  upper primary levels.                            

Anganwadi worker Mesram M. Kamala of Jainoor mandal said that she practiced yoga for the first time and felt that her whole body was relaxed. She added tht she experienced a unique feeling during the 'Yoga Nidra' after completing the Surya Namaskarams

After attending the free three- day yoga training camp organized by VemanaYoga Research Institute, the women felt that yoga and naturopathy would prove to be very useful as these could help cure various ailments often faced by the Adivasis, without any medical expenses and side effects.

Soyam Jangu, a participant, said she hoped that a yoga and naturopathy centre was established at Utnoor as it would benefit the tribals.

Vemana Yoga Research Institute's director Prof (Dr) K. Satya Lakshmi said that  the tribal women were excited while during and after the programme. She added that though 60 women had registered, around 80 had attended the programme.
