Though located at a strategic
place, Adilabad has been neglected in the process of selection of cities for the
SCM.
Adilabad is located in the
centre of the proposed Hyderabad – Nagpur industrial corridor and recently
Chief Minister K.Chandrasekhar Rao announced that an airport would come up near
Adilabad town.
Adilabad, located on
the borders of Telangana and Maharashtra, is slowly emerging as the transit
point in the industrial growth with the recently introduced Telangana’s new
industrial policy-2014 that is popularly called Industrial project and self certification
system – (TS-ipass).
The new policy is being
touted as a catalyst in the industrial growth as 23 industrial projects got
clearance which will be established at various places in the district.
It is fact that
comparatively the availability of the government land is more in Adilabad
district when compared to other district in the state to create massive
infrastructure for comprehensive development.
Adilabad town would
have been developed as prominent industrial city in the industrial corridor if
it was selected for smart city scheme by the central government.
Both Adilabad and
Mancherial municipalities had been selected for ‘Amruth’ scheme and will get
nearly Rs 20 crore every year for the development of these two municipalities.
It seems that the
central government compensated these two towns by selecting them for Amruth
instead smart city.
