Sterilisation drive to check monkey menace

In an attempt to check the growing monkey menace, the state government will soon launch a comprehensive sterilization programme to check their population.

The government will conduct a preliminary survey to assess the monkey menace and the principal secretary had recently conducted a meeting on the issue.

Forest officials would soon visit Chandigarh where the government was successful in checking problem by launching a similar drive.

Minister for the forest and environment Jogu Ramanna said,  ‘the government has decided to take steps to control monkey menace as it was posting problems to the people  in the villages and towns and even in the Hyderabad’.

He said they have received many representations on the issue from various districts and appealed to the people, especially women, not to entertain monkeys by offering them food with the sentiment they had towards that animal.

Nirmal MLA A. Indrakaran Reddy said, ‘Monkey menace has become a serious problem in Nirmal division as the civic officials have been releasing the monkeys, caught in Hyderabad, in Mahaboobnagar forests’.
