received were found to be eligible for the enhanced pensions of various kinds,
after verification. There is a huge demand for pensions in the wake of
enhancement of the amount. As many as 1.39 lakh applications have been rejected
on various grounds by the officials.
There were 2.60 lakh pensioners of various kinds-
old age, widow and disabled- in Adilabad district. But in the state government has
asked the beneficiaries to apply freshly for the enhanced pensions and of them,
2.01 lakh applications were found to be eligible which means 59,000 pensions
were cut down after fresh survey when compared to the previous pensions in Adilabad
district.
According to reliable sources, most of the
applications seeking pensions were rejected based on information collected through

The state government has enhanced the amount of the pensions
to Rs 1,500 for disabled, Rs 1,000 for widows and aged persons and the amount
would be given to the eligible under ‘Asara’ scheme from November 8 in the state.
As part of the survey, committees were formed at
mandal- level to verify the applications and select those eligible for
pensions. Then officials conducted house- to – house survey and found that many
ineligible had applied for enhanced pensions. The ineligible included old- aged
persons from wealthy families and some under aged people too.
After the intensive household survey, officials began
cross –checking data collected about socio- economic conditions of the families
