Helmet must for entry

The district administration has imposed ‘no helmet no entry’ rule after ‘no helmet no petrol’ on government staff. Under this rule, government employees without wearing helmets will not be allowed entry into their offices.

This is the first such test to ensure that government staff wears the helmet, so that the public could follow them. This rule is being tried out following the problems in implementing the ‘no helmet – no petrol rule’.

Hundreds of posters on ‘no helmet no entry’ rule have been pasted on the walls of government offices, bus stands and public places here.

Collector M. Jagan Mohan, who is the chairman of the District Road Safety Committee, had issued instructions to the owners of the petrol pumps not to provide fuel to two- wheelers riders who turn up with without helmets. He warned that their licenses would be cancelled if they violated the rule.

He said the administration would set up CC Tv cameras and deploy NCC cadets, forest staff, and home guards to monitor the implementation of no helmet no petrol rule.

Though the rule itself was poorly implemented, there was an increase in the number of two – wheeler riders on wearing helmets due to the campaign by the administration.

Police and Road Transport Departments are creating awareness among the people about the importance of wearing helmets to avoid deaths in road accidents.

Police and transport departments organized a awareness programme about importance of wearing helmet for students so that the students could influence their parents.

Parents will definitely wear helmets if their children refuse to sit on the bike or go along with their parents ride a bike without wearing a helmet.

Collector said the bike riders should wear helmets voluntarily realizing the importance of wearing a helmet instead following it as a rule.
