The vehicles with the overcrowded passengers are more prone to accidents. Especially marriage party’s vehicles are involved in road accidents during this marriage season.
One person died and 15 other of a tribal marriage party injured when the van in which they were travelling overturned near Wankidi on March 26. The transport vehicles are being used for carriage purpose during the marriage season.
The Transport and police departments turned a blind eye to such incidents. It is high time to control vehicles ply especially on Asifabad to Utnoor where roads are in bad condition and road widening works are in progress.
Vans with overcrowded passers are plying on NH-44 without much difficulty and also routes between Mancherial to Adilabad and Adilabad to Kagaznagar in the district. Such scenes were seen regularly during the marriage season in summer in Tribal belt.
It is surprising to note that even bride and groom also travel along with their relatives in such vehicles.
The poor prefer vans rather than tourist buses for transportation of marriage parties. Most of the times the members of marriage parties are being stuffed into vans putting the lives of the travelers to risk.
Transport department officials are not seen conducting vehicle checking in the selected routes to control the plying of vehicles with overcrowded passengers.
There are strong allegations that transport officials give unofficial permission to marriage party vehicles taking bribes either from vehicle owners or marriage parties.
Very rarely transport and police officials stop such vehicles for subjecting the lives of the people to risk and there are incidents where some officials let off such vehicles on humanitarian grounds saying that it was the poor who cannot afford tourist buses engage vans and lorries.
